Tea Tree Essential Oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia, native to New South Wales, Australia. Said to possess antiseptic and antifungal properties, it's used in personal care products and medicines. Benefits include relief from congestion, cold, cough and flu, and healing of acne, fungal infections, and dandruff. Do not use it internally, only on adults, away from children and pets; avoid use if pregnant or lactating. Aboriginal Australians have used it for centuries to heal cuts, burns, sores, and infections, and for relieving coughs and colds. Its antimicrobial properties were recognized in Europe circa 1920-1930.
